Ultimately, it should be recognized that the use of straight fin heatsinks is not always ideal when planning out a thermal strategy. One alternative to straight finned heatsink technology, for example, provides up to a quarter times more efficiency in situations where the ventilation is decreased. It is the round pin heatsink design, and should be considered a necessary replacement in such circumstances. Also, when airflow goes in one specific direction, a manufacturer should turn perhaps to the elliptical fin shape in order to more effectively take care of the component's thermal requirements.
